This page shows just some of the training that is carried out when you join the cadets
Training is conducted in accordance with the Army Proficiency Certificate. (APC)
Within this APC syllabus there are different levels of training but they all have the same goals - Achievement
As with anything in life doing something new is always a bit daunting, so we take great care in making sure that you learn all the skills you need in the correct manner and at the correct speed. If we see that you would benefit from becoming a fast track cadet then you will be moved to a level which suits your capabilities.
Below are some pictures and descriptions of just some of the many activities that we undertake.
| |
 Drill & Turnout:
Drill & Turnout training is conducted in the same manner as the Army. You will be shown and trained in all of the drill movements allowing you to take part in many parades including those which are held each year in the public eye.

At the very early stages of your training we will show you how to prepare your kit and how to wear your uniform correctly.

 Skill At Arms:
In today's political arena training with weapons may seem a bit out of place. Our goal is and has always been Safety. You wont even be allowed to touch a weapon until you have been instructed in a basic set of safe handling rules.

After you fully understand the safety rules you will then begin weapons training. We will train you in the operation, cleaning and handling drills. Every three months you will then have to complete a weapon handling test in order for you to use the weapon. Safety being our biggest concern your training will become more difficult as you progress through the system. When we feel you are ready you will be allowed to do target shooting.
 Shooting:
Once you have completed all of your weapons tests you will be allowed to attend a range and practice your shooting skills. All range events are controlled under the strictest supervision.

At a later stage, and if your shooting is good, then you may be asked to represent your company and / or Hampshire at some of the many shooting events held.
 Fieldcraft:
This is what its all about, this is where you get to look the biz, where your training comes into practice. You are trained to see without being seen, move without being heard, and as a section member become a team player in battle simulation.

You will receive full training in how to cook for yourself in the field and how to put up shelters.

 Map & Compass:
We will teach you how to navigate using both a map and a compass. We will teach you from the basic's all the way up to advanced where you will be taught resection (position finding). As Navigation is part of school curriculum you will find yourself ahead of all your class mates.

After you have mastered Map & Compass the real fun begins.
You plan your route, you prepare your kit and off you go. Expeditions are where you will walk the route you have planned and cook for yourselves and sleep out in a tent which you have put up.
 First Aid:
As part of our APC syllabus you will be trained in First Aid. We have 3 levels of training, the last being First Aid At Work. At the start you will learn how to manage an accident. You will be trained how to prioritise who needs help first and what to do.

During your training you will take part in a training accident. They are designed to test your reaction and see how you cope with a realistic incident. |
