Bishops Waltham in Bloom:

Pictured above are members of 4 Troop, together with L/Cpl Sam Talman in the foreground, with his certificate.

The skills that a cadet learns as he or she progresses through the APC (Army Proficiency Certificate) scheme with the Army Cadet Force are wide and varied. However 4 Troop have developed one that you may not find in the syllabus…..

Back in June of this year 4 Troop attended the Bishops Waltham Carnival fete very successfully, leading to a number of new recruits, and raising our profile in the community. At this event we were asked if we would like to enter the “Best Hanging Basket” competition as part of the “Bishops Waltham in Bloom 2007” event. As 4 Troop are always up for a challenge (no matter how varied) we decided to enter, ably led by L/Cpl Sam Talman.

The basket was duly completed and displayed in the main High Street to be judged by a panel of local experts. The outcome of the judging was that 4 Troop achieved an outstanding second place against what can only be described as tough local competition.

with thanks to S.I L Archibald for this report and photograph.

The Commandant says:

‘You will all know the importance that I place on our citizenship programme - it is vital that we work with our communities in order to help them and to help spread the ACF message. This can be done in a variety of ways and I commend 4Tp - most particularly L/Cpl Talman - on getting involved in this competition. If I need a gardener, I know where to look!
